Perfect hotel if attending event at Prudential Center

The front desk and the hotel manager Briana are top notch in welcoming and ensuring a great visit is had by all. We went to attend an event at the Prudential Center which was ideally located next door, as well as a great pizza restaurant. Hotel is very secure, quiet, and clean. We'll be staying there again if we go to another event at the Prudential Center. Thank you.

In the city for a concert at Prudential. The hotel itself was fine. Clean, beds comfy, decent sized washroom. The pillowcase on one of my pillows had blood stain on it - kinda grosse. Stained sheets should be thrown out. Desk staff was ok. They did their jobs but nothing exceptional and only answered the direct question. The woman working the bistro was working hard and very pleasant. Free shuttle to airport is helpful but seatbelts we’re broken in two of the three seats. Driver said it was ok he’d drive slow. I was grateful to have the connected walkway to The Prudential Centre as I wouldn’t want to be walking around down there at night. We walked from Penn station during the day and neither of us felt very safe. Felt safer at night in NYC. Went out in daylight to get water and snacks. The front desk sent me to some awful convenience store in the bottom of an apartment building That was a bit sketch. Not sure if there was a better option close by, but I didn’t feel comfortable wandering around. We ate dinner in the stadium as we didn’t see many restaurants on Broad street that we would eat in. Would stay again simply for the convenience of being attached to The Prudential.

Easy walk to Prudential center and Newark Penn Station - easily accessible to NYC by PATH train, NJ transit, or Amtrak. 24 hour security / key-required for front door access. Gym was nice and room was spacious enough. Did not use any other amenities.

Although the room is clean and spacious, there is way more improvement needed at this Marriott . To not have bottled water when your guests arrive after a long day of travel is a just poor management. Also, although there is a refrigerator, it is not stocked with the typical beer, wine, soda. So why did I need to give my card for incidentals when there was nothing to purchase? The room has 2 TVs. Why? The TripAdvisor photo show a cocktail and a Dinosaur BBQ. My mouth was watering but guess what? There is no bar and no BBQ or restaurant at all. The main door hinge was leaking oil. Towels are not soft. Windows and walls do not provide good sound isolation.

*** sorry as this is a long and detailed review *** On July 3rd, my family and I arrived to the Courtyard Marriott Newark downtown on Broad St in new Jersey. The first room we were in was 720 which was a handicapped accessible room. It was okay except the bathroom had a shower curtain that was about 8 inches off of the floor so when we took a shower, the bathroom floor became soaked and dangerously slippery. We asked for a room changed which was granted the next morning which was July 4th. We were moved to room 720. July 4th, my daughter woke up to raised bumps and blistering on her lower calf. I put some Benadryl on it thinking she had a spider bite or something. Well after another day of it looking worse, we reached out to our doctor virtually who viewed it and said it looked like bed bug bites. Well, we had switched rooms, so I reached out to the front desk to ask them to check the previously room before anyone else goes in there. The manager, Camille Grant reached out to me and stated she closed off the room and would keep us posted after environmental services check the room out. She asked us if we had any expenses that were incurred which we did...the doctor's visit and two medicines. I met with Ms. Grant when we returned to the hotel later that evening and she stated the hotel would pay for the doctor's visit but she wasn't sure if they would reimburse for the medicines. Ms. Grant offered to launder all of my daughter's clothes in hot water (which she did) and we checked her luggage to make sure everything was good. We also put peppermint oil on the interior of my daughter's luggage to kill whatever may be in there. The next day, we were informed that environmental services said no bed bugs were found on the bed. Okay. Fine. She stated no one would come in our current room until environmental services checked it out once we left. Fast forward to the night before check out, we came back to our room and realized we had fresh sheets and towels. Housekeeping had been in our room although we were told no one would have access to it. We pulled the duvet back and that's when we saw the stained sheets. My husband went down to ask for new sheets and Ms. Grant was there. He didn't want to cause alarm for other guests checking in so she told my husband that housekeeping would be up. Housekeeping lady comes up and brought the sheets and told us she was off and we would need to change the sheets ourselves. Say what now?! You brought the sheets up so how are you off. We need you to change these sheets and covers because obviously, items aren't being laundered properly. We reached out to Ms. Grant but she left before returning our call. I took a shower and as I was grabbing the towel, I saw something moving on it. Low and behold, it's a bed bug. A nice sized one. Pictures are attached of bed and towel. There is quite possibly an infestation on the laundry cart or in the laundry room. I went downstairs to talk to the front desk and ask for someone to come up. The front desk attendant is busy but the female housekeeping lady is still there standing near the coffee station with her hands on her hip. Wait a minute? I thought she was off, but I guess she has selective duties after a certain time because she had no problem grabbing items for other guests. At this point, my husband became irate as we had been in the lobby for 40 minutes, it was hot as the AC in the front desk lobby was out the entire week we were there, and the front desk gentleman kept asking the housekeeping lady to go to our room and she said no, she wasn't doing it. I have since reached out to Camille Grant, the manager and she has CC'd her manager on the emails with no response. Why ask what time I am available to talk and I tell you after 4pm to still not receive any phone calls or emails. Ms. Grant was there until 7pm when we were there for the week. This has led me to post a review because others need to know about this possible infestation. We checked out on July 8th. The security lady, front desk attendant and the shuttle driver were the best but we will never stay in this hotel again.
